Elyzia

I Love Elyzia, Elyzia Loves You!

Uerm... I think this shd be considered a late late post ar... supposed to have done it last week, but, year end, everybody is busy.. and therefore, only had the time to post this up now.

Neko San was busy with his work, and schedule is so packed with the shootings! However, we still continue our late night jamming on 19 Dec, but after jamming, Neko San gotta rush back to finish up his work... Jia you!!!

As usual, the rest continue with kopi session after jamming, before heading home sweet home... Just when we stepped into the car... Ivor saw a piece of paper on the windscreen. 3 of us were puzzled, thinking, was it a summon? but... summon in a commercial building carpark?? Was it a prank? or.... we got fans following us?!? Haha.... Stop thinking, and we got down to get the paper... and.... Tada~~~ below is a picture of the note:

Well, who else will write this kinda note? With a spelling mistake at the bottom? hehehe...

We Love Elyzia, Elyzia Love Us too~~!!!!!

Have a Merry X'mas and a Happy New Year!!!

Ambivalence

We are gonna put out an album hopefully by this year.

Frankie and Ivor was thinking of calling it Love And Hate. Bacause our songs are so far along this line. I came up with Ambivalence.......another term for L/H. Frankie thought it's kinda cool.

Anyways, can't seem to fall asleep at 6 a.m. in the morning, begin working on a mock up cover....the broken wing, the cross, those rings, and a whole lotta roses. And a woman ambivalently bounded.

P/S it's just a mock.

Have a God Blessed day.

Fantastic 4

Busy week, busy week, very busy busy week...

For work, Rhea got so many budgeting to do, Mic need to design & shoot for the weekend, Frankie tabbing all his basslines, Ivor handling so many customers and quotations... busy busy busy! But then... during this hard times... think it's good to be busy.

For music, Elyzia is preparing for their 4th original recording now. It's something different from the previous 3 songs. But who knows how the final product will be after our concoction, lol.

Bad health week though, Rhea got flu this morning, Ivor over-strained his wrist and went for acupuncture earlier this week, and had not recovered yet... mmm... no wolverine genes here... Mic still recovering from D'arcy's scratches... Weather is not very good lately too, ya'll better take good care of your health. Drink more red wine, i mean water.

Everything is going pretty fine at the moment if not great and as Mic had mentioned, there might be a new addition. Meanwhile, keep the creative juices flowing and we shall give an update once our 3rd original 'Monster' is up!

Encouraged.

As I listen to our rough mix on Monster, I feel like I need to blog this. It's a verse taken from the book of Joshua;

Joshua 1:9
...Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Elyzia looking forward to their first studio shoot. And probably another new addition.

Frankie

... I heard her said "AI TAI LEI"... so I fed her "PARASITE"... hoping to turn her into a "MONSTER"... but she became a "PUFFYFISH" instead... causing "EARTHQUAKE" in my life til I realised she was a "PRINCESS" from HELL...

Almost Monster

Let me have the honor to be the first to present the thrilling adventure of recording numero 3.

As usual, sat is always filled with hectic schedule and running arounds. This sat is no different. Got a lift from Ivor and Rhea to the studio, where we practice the Monster song. I have not really practice much cos I was busy with church camp. And was really drained upon my return from it. But I believe this day is a blessed day. I had no much problem doing the song, and kinda feel really confident about it, given that this was suppose to be the hardest song so far for us...anyways.....

We hit the studio around slightly off three. As usual I am the first guy to lay the tracks. I was so surprise I can finished it slightly after five, that's like 2 hours for me..I spent close to four hours for Ai Tai Lei, three for parasite(and not doing my best.), I really think there's improvement in recording for me. Of cos, I was a tad confident today compare to the other sessions. But alas, many times Ah Boy came to my rescue! Ah Boy, you are the man! He save my ass yet again...! And at least this time, wo dui de qi zi ji! I did my best.

As for the rest of the instruments....let the other guys tell their part of the story! I shall not hog the entire super day!

Thanks guys. Without you I won't be enjoyin this moment.

Thank you Father. I know you are there all the time. :-)

Countdown to 3rd Recording!

Woohoo~ Our beloved Mic is back and Elyzia's 3rd recording is tomorrow!

Things are pretty healthy for Elyzia. Songs are still churning out, creative juices are still aplenty, equipments are still.. er.... being spent on..., friends are great and supportive. Basically, we are still focused and working towards Elyzia's goals and not letting them or anybody down.

We were beginning to wonder watz keeping Ah Boy from sending us our 2nd recording... you forgot to mix it! Grrr, no curry puff for you! lol. Kidding. We love you Ah Boy~

It is really not easy for working people to play music as part-time but still treat it as a full time passion. 'Passion' is essential cuz everybody only has 24hrs everyday. Since we were working, some more than 8 hrs, passion is the thing that drives us to make full use of whatever time we have left to contribute and work on our music.

A salute to everyone who give their hearts and souls in creating originals and efforts in preserving originality.

Rock On~

I am BACK!

I was away for my annual church camp. I remember sitting behind the back of the bus, listening to our own blend of music. Going through all the details of the songs of our past recordings in spite of the loud motor roaring at the rear end of the travel bus. Some thoughts went through my mind as I listen on. Alot of nice memories of the band was playing through my mind. I remember being late for the first audition, thinking I am not gonna get the gig after all.....the red wine....the late late night jammings...the tired Elyzia, the beaten but not out Elyzia, the coffee shop Elyzia, the Elyzia i have come to fall in love with. We have come some way.

We are goin into the studio again on sat. Alot of anticipation no doubt. Yet another milestone.

I remember calling Rhea and talkin to Ivor before I go for this trip. I hardly do that even to my parents. I think that speaks alot about how I feel towards this people.

I will continue to pray for this wondeful band. :)

Amen!
Michel

Quiet Week

Mm... feels weird cuz there's no jamming this week. This is another example that life is showcasing to us. Alot of things can happen, mostly inevitable, but we juz have to find a way to deal with it... or not... However, we have to believe that there are still genuine people who really supports us and will always be there when any of us falls. No proof for it, jus gotta believe that such things do exists. If a band is affected by such puny obstacles which will definitely occur again and again, it is not a band that is destined for greatness.

One thing about life is, shit happens, and they always comes in shit loads after shit loads... itz ok to be beaten down by it, cry our hearts out, and it is even ok to give up everything... but it is ok only when we choose to do it, because it is our choice.

For everything, we should know why we are doing it. This gives us, if not remind us the reason of why we begin in the first place.

Good news is, all the incidents happened last week gave rise to inspiration for new songs and we have 1 + 0.5 + 0.5 new songs added to Elyzia's current arsenal.

The road is long, shit everywhere waiting for their chance to happen, no such thing as a bed of roses... Ain't that the truth. But for working adults... it is not something we are new to... However... it's still the same comment... nobody said it was easy... You juz need to know whether you want to do it or not, and why are you doing it.

Next week will be recording our 3rd original... so frigggin looking forward to it. Somehow, this song will be a testament to our faith after 3mths of Elyzia-ing. If we can get thru this with flaming morale still, we must be doin something right, and thank you so much for everyone of us for doing this something right.

Something personal to comment here. Went to beez with Edmund. Had a very nice chat and service from beez, as usual. lol. I would still highly recommend beez to anyone in nid of musical service after all these years, he's the best. Kudos to you beez!

Cheers~

The Angel

Saw this guitar in Davis on Saturday... This is so beautiful! It comes with pink color luminous strings, my attention is totally taken away by it!!!

After that, heard from Neko San that this is a custom made for guitarist of The Alfee. Then i tried to search for it online... and found this page... A collection of Toshihiko Takamizawa's (guitarist of The Alfee) angel series guitars produced by ESP!

http://www.guitarsatbmusic.com.au/esp/ctmgallery/index.htm

Omg... they are so BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Well, and they are not cheap too.... haha! Ok, one day, just one day, you will see Rhea holding one of them. Really, one day.

Unstoppable Monster!

Parasite is done! Akan datang the mixed version to be uploaded soon! ^_^

As mentioned, 13th Dec will be recording our 3rd original. Yesterday night's jamming proved that Elyzia is unstoppable. Come hell or high water, bring it on, huat ar~

Mic adopted 2 very cute pussy-lets oso. Wish he have a good time with them. Pt to make is, they are strays. I think taking in strays is a very noble thing to do, not easy, both physically and mentally. A round of applause of Mic *clap clap clap*. Mic will be goin for a short trip next week too. Enjoy your trip ya~ We dun mind you buy instruments back for us as presents, really! *monkey knods*

Meanwhile, Rhea is also painstakingly doin up other multi-media mediums for Elyzia to reach out to a wider group of friends. Ivor and Mic is trying very hard to fight off the GAS monster... apparently not very successful... lol.

Frankie came out with a bass line (complete with a very schmuck face package) for 3rd original's ending which is super cool! Looking forward to hear his bass solo for our 4th original which he mentioned. Super uber cool! haha!

Cheers and Rock On!

ˈmänstər

Just for laughs.

I am hopeful, and uberly challenged by the third recording that is coming our way. Monster it is, and Monster it shall be...Monster done by monsters, Monster is as monsters said. Monster are monsters. monsters that is Elyzia. Monster monster monster. Monster happens!

monster |ˈmänstər| noun an imaginary creature that is typically large, ugly, and frightening. • an inhumanly cruel or wicked person : he was an unfeeling, treacherous monster. • often humorous a person, typically a child, who is rude or badly behaved : Christopher is only a year old, but already he is a little monster. • a thing or animal that is excessively or dauntingly large : this is a monster of a book, almost 500 pages. • a congenitally malformed or mutant animal or plant.

Monster!

Things been progressin' very well so far, felt progress for our 3rd original. Morale is still burning. Stress and tiredness is felt too, but that is natural as all of us are working, have our own commitments etc etc. But base on what we want to achieve with Elyzia, if we can't take this, i dun think we can take anything else in life. Fortunately, I guess besides plain passion, we all had been really putting in effort to contribute for our own music as well as bonding as a band (Not the Basic Bondage Kit).

So i came up with the 4Ps that had been pushing us so far, passion, practice, personal effort (hahaha, nid to add the p word in front so deliberately) and perseverance. Of cuz forming a band, sustaining it and then breaking through our plans is not so simple nor easy, but summary is;

Passion - Without this, we wun even get started... We love to do something for a reason.
Practice - No need to explain about this... You can't expect durians to every time fall at your feet.
Personal Effort - Self motivation, mentality, committment etc. Nobody can help you but yourself...
Perseverance - Shit happens, and it is a cruel world. Do, or do not, there is no try.

Well, we seemed to have run into some scheduling problem for recording of 2nd original but nothing that will pose any serious problems yet (touch wood). Akan datang for Elyzia's 2nd original!

Edmund joined us for a jam yesterday as well and if all things go well, Ed will be the 5th member of Elyzia!

Planning for 3rd original recording will be on 13th Dec 08 (Dec). Judging from yesterday's jamming, i am really quite eager to see how our 3rd original will turn out.

Have heard the raw version with vocal, wonder how it will sound after mixing. Hopefully it can create some surprises for me.

Complete Guide To Forming A Band Part #4

What a night... a few more hrs and it's time to 'pay back' time to the stupid poolice/gahmen/watever shit u call it, like we ever owe them anything in the first place. Which friggin idiot thought of all these boring turd to waste my time man.
Anyway, i'll skip 2 parts since it's about finding the right person for the right job and some mentality thingy again. So tonight will be Part IV: 'We Need A Backline'. This section appears to be targeted for guitar players.

1) Don't panic if you only have an entry level guitar. As long as it stays in tune and doesn't buzz too much, it will do the job.

2) You'll need to have an amp at least 40 or 50 watts to really start jamming seriously. (Mm.. not too sure about this, Beez can create havoc with 15w...)

3) Make sure you choose the right amplifier for the style of music that you want to play. (For those of us who visits studios.. dun think got much choices anyway.)

4) In most circumstances, a valve amp will give you a better guitar tone. (Is it?)

String Gauge Recommendations
Metal: Custom Lights 9-46
Punk/Hard Rock: Medium 10-46
Pop/Light Rock: Lights 9-42
Country: Custom Lights 10-46
Blues/Jazz: Heavy 11-52

The rest are quite a handful to summarize... so... decided not to summarize. Can go get the mag in local bookshops. Weird... but i think i still see it in smoe bookshops. Really...

Ai Tai Mei!

Lorry!

Lorry broke down after three hours of jamming on a certain week night. Forgotten to off the headlight, hence.....Ivor N' Gang were nice enough to help! The blood of the band runs strong..I truly enjoy the friendship of the band. These are rare people trying to make their mark in music together, and create a world of melody for people to enjoy. Cheers to the world's richest band, for when there's friendship, there's richness in the melody.

* this is a LATE entry. Vocalist been nagging. :)

Enjoy true Elyzia-stic fun! The Lorry Incident.

Complete Guide To Forming A Band Part #3

Mm.. this chapter might be a bit long. Most of it, i feel that it is a mentality thing. But then again, mentality really also depends on character, life experiences and alot of (individual or not) circumstances within or out of our control. Anyway, here comes Part III: 'It's All About Compromise'

1) When it's at its best, making music is give and take. Make sure every member of the band is doing both.

2) Be prepared to accept compromises, and be prepared to have your ideas changed, and even occasionally shot down in flames.

3) Rotate the dominant role from song to song - give everyone in the band their chance to shine.

Vox
- People who sing out of time are surprisingly rare. People who sing out of tune are more common. Bad vocalists go flat, particularly on long notes.
- Good vocalists will be aware that they don't have to stick the microphone halfway down their throat & scream.
- Vox will most likely be the centre of attention on stage. Charisma is at least as important as singing ability.
- Don't forget how important the right attitude is in rock n'roll these days. Let your frontgal plat that role if they want.

Guitarists
- Have a tendency to play over the top of everyone else.
- Good guitarists will leave alot of space in their parts.
- Tend to fall prey to gear addiction. (Hahahahaha, not only guitarist la c'mon..)

Bassists
- Too many bassists just want to stick to the root notes and double up the guitar.
- Good bassists plays with lots of movements and add in good joining phrases.

Drummers
- Most important thing about a drummer is keeping time.
- Good drummers play right on top of the beat, really looks to drive the song along, rather than just tapping in the background.
- Key to a solid rhythm section is how they lock their bass drum in with the bassist.

'You know the hardest thing is when egos get big, and it's hard to just be like "Don't play that." Like to actually be able to say "Shut up. That is wanking. It's not helping the song." - Cam Muncey (Jet)

Complete Guide To Forming A Band Part #2

Well, here goes Part Deux: 'Different Strokes'

Jizz of it, things to remember...

1) Make sure everyone wants the same out of making music, whether that be a serious career or abit of fun on Sunday. You don't want to put in all the hardwork and then realize that you're all doing for different reasons.

2) Work out what's important to each member of the band, be that live work, writing abd recording or just picking up chicks (That's exactly what the mag wrote hor...)

3) Agree on a style of music, or even better, agree that you don't want to be put into a stylistic pigeonhole.

4) Remeber that your influences are important, but there's no glory in imitating your heroes.

Everything in the music industry these days are broken up into little fractured groups, and artistes are all put into whatever group fits them best. Generally, it's the record companies that create the little fractured groups - they call them target markets. Then it's the media that decide which target market a certain artist will be sold to - they call it criticism.
Even so, most bands just play music when they're alone in the jam room. The good ones - the ones that don't get caught in the little target market tango - are the bands that can just play music when they get out of the jam room as well.

'We all have heroes, musical and otherwise, but there's nothing worse than when we just blindly imitate those people' - Jane's Addiction

Elyzia Go! Go! Go!

Complete Guide To Forming A Band Part #1

Rest time @ 12am... Flippin' thru a mag bought 3 yrs ago for AUD9.95 titled 'Complete Guide To Forming A Band'. Tot some of the pointers quite helpful. Here goes citation Part #1 - 'For Those About To Rock'

1) Being in a band is pretty much like being married to 3 other ppl.
2) Better to form a band with friends than the hotshot blazing his guitar licks @ the local guitar shop
3) Only a friendly band environment will allow the creative compromises and cross fertilisation needed to make great music.
4) Remember, being in a band is suppose to be fun!

At some pt, being in a band is going to become a creative output. You'll be in a situation where you have to all put your ideas into a great mixing pot, and pull something useful out of it. It's gonna take compromises, and egoes are going to have to be swallowed (or seriously bruised)
If you don't have a good personal relationship with the ppl in your band, you're never going to be able to write a song because nobody will be able to accept other ppl's ideas without getting hurt or ticked off.

'I get to hang out with my best mates and travel around the world playing music. Nothing else really matters' - Nick Valencia (The Strokes)
